Welcome to our first newsletter accompanying the 2011/12 edition of Tax Memo. This summarises all the important announcements made in conjunction with the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement on 29 November 2011. The Autumn Statement represents a change of emphasis, after several years of Pre-Budget Reports at about the same time of year. The Pre-Budget Report had become very similar to the Spring Budget, in that it included substantial tax-technical announcements, often as many as would then be announced in the following Budget itself. In contrast, the Autumn Statement was more about the UK’s financial state, than a platform to introduce wholesale and detailed tax changes. However, it will be followed in a week’s time by release of much of the content of next year’s Finance Bill. This newsletter summarises what we learned on 29 November, and looks forward, where appropriate, to what we may find out next week. We trust that you will find it useful and informative in advising you about the changes, and we welcome any comments you may have as to how we can improve our service. We look forward to receiving your emails at flm@flmemo.co.uk. |
